And I want to let you in on a little secret... I don’t know how to use a brush lettering pen or calligraphy nib and ink... yup, for real... or as I like to say #fauxREAL... I have been lettering since 2014 and I still have yet to master those swanky tools... the truth is... it takes a lot of time and practice to build the muscle memory and when I started, I just didn’t have the time. 

I didn’t want to wait until I had the proper skills and the perfect technique to be able to create meaningful and beautiful art... so I created a different path…

Fauxligraphy:

Traditional and Modern Calligraphy use strict pressure techniques to create thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes. Fauxligraphy creates the same appearance of thick and thin lines but uses a faux or fake technique to create the letterforms. This type of lettering looks just like real calligraphy and is a great first step for beginners.

Fauxligraphy is the technique that I used when I was getting started and it is the technique that I still use now on each and every hand lettering piece that I create! Maybe one day I will have the time to learn the fancy tools. But until then, I am just going to be over here doing the best I can with what I have, giving myself permission to let that be ok and creating beautiful art!
