When Life Gives You Lemons

The original saying is, “when life gives you lemons make lemonade” however during this crazy season of quarantined life, I am seeing a lot of people deciding to kick it up a notch with the vodka.

I have plenty of people in my life who have handled this situation with lemonade and plenty with vodka. How are you handling the craziness of this season? Do you err on the side or lemonade or vodka?

Personally, I don’t drink and I am glad my husband does. We are all doing the best we can with what we have when we have it.

Managing Stress

I actually think it should read, “when life gives you lemons, take them to therapy.” There is no correlation between the lemons and therapy other than I think it’s important to handle what life gives you by processing your feelings and not eating or drinking your way through them. Trust me, I have tried the eating and drinking and ultimately resorted to therapy to clear out all the bitterness.

Making Art To Cope

When drinking and eating didn’t work to help reduce my stress or calm my anxiety, I had to find a different solution. I started making art. Now, I get out my watercolor paints and start painting shapes. I keep it really simple and draw lines, circles, triangles, scallops and just let myself get lost in the ease, simplicity and repetition. It’s amazing how it distracts me from the overwhelm and frustration of navigating raising two young kids during a global pandemic.

Have you tried making art to cope with your stress and anxiety? If you are curious at giving it a try, I created a FREE GROUP called The Makers Circle on Facebook to help you get started in making art. I provide prompts and facilitate live lessons too. Be sure to join us for creative inspiration and connection.

If you have no time to learn how to make right now, I completely get it! No worries, you can just purchase this adorably funny print as wall art for your own home instead!
